Kari Lavoie For Your New YYC Ward 6 Councillor

Hello Ward 6!

I AM HERE TO DO THE WORK FOR YOU.

I am Kari Lavoie and I am proud to have lived in Ward 6 for most of my life. I went to Killarney Elementary, A.E. Cross and Central Memorial. I also got my undergraduate degree in Policy Studies at Mount Royal University and my MBA at the University of Calgary.

I am a third generation Ward 6 Calgarian – my parents and grandparents also lived in this Ward. My husband and I have watched the areas of Cougar Ridge, Aspen, New Discovery and Springbank Hill develop and have seen the good, the bad and the ugly that come with new developments.

I believe that any development should be done thoughtfully, considering the infrastructure burden and neighbourhood impacts. While I support development, it should not come at the cost of the people already living in the area. We put our time, energy and love into our neighbourhoods and that has to be a consideration in all future growth.

I have the knowledge, experience and judgement required to serve the communities that make up Ward 6. I have been working in our community since I was 13 years old when I was working part time at the McDonalds on 14th Street. Professionally, I have worked in all levels of governement, in the private sector and in ‘Not-for-Profits’. I have designed and implemented several policy environments for both business and ‘Not-for-Profits’. This included not only policy writing but also project management, change management, stakeholder relations and communications. I have presented policy to a wide range of audiences from C-Suite executives to foreign diplomats. I have had my research published internationally and I had the privilege to be selected to do a foreign policy internship in Washington DC.

I am not afraid to ask difficult questions in the interest of gaining knowledge and understanding to strengthen my ability to do the best for you and the rest of Ward 6. There is important work that needs to be done in this city, and I am here to do the work for you.
